Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between YES Vaginal Moisturiser (VM) & YES Lubricant?

Both YES Vaginal Moisturiser and YES water-based lube are pH-matched to typical vaginal pH and instantly soothe and calm irritation, itching and burning. The main difference is the speed of water release to relieve vaginal dryness.

YES Water-Based Personal Lube releases water more rapidly than YES VM, to instantly rehydrate and lubricate dry tissues to enable intercourse.

YES VM Vaginal Moisturiser releases water to rehydrate dry vaginal tissues as and when it is needed, over extended periods (1 to 3 days). YES VM is a slow-release moisturiser, with the rate of moisturising determined by the degree of vaginal dryness. The drier you are the more water is released. YES VM puts your body in control of rehydrating herself.

The following table gives you some handy hints on when to use which product:
YES Water-Based (WB) VS Oil-Based (OB) Lubricants - what's the difference?

While different, YES water-based lube and YES plant-oil-based lube complement each other perfectly and are, of course, both certified organic. These sister products can be used alone or together, depending on what you need at any given time. One of the main differences is, that WB is compatible with condoms, while OB is not.

Can I combine Water-based and Oil-based Lubricants?

Given you don’t rely on condoms, it’s a great idea to combine the two products. For best protection against discomfort during sex apply YES oil-based first, followed by YES WB.  Get robust oil-based lubrication and extra slip from the YES Water-Based Natural Lubricant. When used on top of OB, the water-based product is not quickly absorbed so you don’t have to reapply regularly.

What ingredients are in YES Products?

How do I apply YES Products?

Everyone is unique, not only compared to others, but also at different stages of their lives and even different stages of their cycles. Therefore, it would be counterproductive to recommend a set application amount. Nevertheless, below are some guidelines to be readjusted by YOU, EVERY TIME you use YES.

YES products in tubes are for finger application, while the pre-filled applicators enable a deeper delivery without the product coming into direct contact with the hands.

YES plant-oil based lube is a rich, healing emollient. Thick at room temperature and a lovely smooth liquid at body temperature, YES OB is long-lasting and a great massage oil. Apply with your fingers. YES plant-oil based lube is NOT compatible with condoms, as all oils (natural or synthetic) seem to dissolve latex.

YES water-based lube is a gel that becomes less thick, more liquid as it is used. YES WB can be applied before and/or during lovemaking. Privately, before lovemaking, women can put it on, in and around the vulva and vagina, using fingers to insert the lubricant well into the vagina, as well as to the labia. If in any doubt about how much to use, go for more rather than less since water-based lubricants are not known for lasting a long time (that’s one of the reasons why we make YES plant-oil based lube). YES WB contains no glycerine. Glycerine makes lubricants feel sticky and can dry tissues too. So using lots of YES WB will not leave you feeling sticky.

Use about 5ml (a teaspoon). Put it on where the dryness occurs and, depending on the severity of your dryness, you may need to use the product more frequently.

Where can I apply YES?

YES products are great for lovemaking, play, body glide and massage and as a general treatment for vaginal dryness. They’re suitable for vaginal, anal and oral use.

YES water-based/plant-oil-based natural lubes can be generously applied to the penis and the vaginal area, to enhance pleasure and assist penetration. Remember to lubricate the vulva as well as the vagina. Both can be safely applied to other body parts, during play or massage, as they nurture the skin, leaving it sleek and soft, with no unpleasant residue or stickiness.

YES OB is also a luxurious massage oil and can be applied for all-over body glide, as well as for intimate massage.

YES WB and YES OB are safe even if swallowed, as they are made from pure food-quality ingredients.

YES Vaginal Moisturiser is designed for vaginal use to address dryness, and it is also suitable as a lubricant.

  5. Once inserted squeeze the wide end, several times, to ensure the contents are released.
  6. Continue to squeeze the applicator as you extract it. These are single-use applicators – discard when empty.
  7. They are made from recyclable materials, please recycle where possible.
Is YES suitable for sensitive skin?

All YES products are certified organic, which means there is nothing unknown, hidden, or damaging present. To summarise YES products contain NO: petrochemicals, parabens, known skin irritants, grapefruit seed extract, glycerin, hormones, silicone or propylene glycol.

Here’s an example: YES WB contains 5 plant extracts – all used in food and 3 having healing pedigrees of over 4,000 years – and food-grade preservatives. As a result, YES products are the safest on the market anywhere and great for sensitive skin.

What is Hypoallergenic Lube?

Hypoallergenic means something is formulated to minimise risk from allergies.

Products labelled hypoallergenic are purportedly less likely to cause an allergic reaction. This is because they are believed to contain fewer allergens, the substances and particles that irritate allergy-sufferers and cause them to have a reaction.

YES products are hypoallergenic as they contain the purest ingredients possible.

Can I use YES with condoms?

YES WB and YES VM have been successfully tested for compatibility with latex and polyisoprene condoms. They are not compatible with polyurethane condoms. It is not advised to use oil-based lubricants (YES OB) with latex condoms.

Can YES be used with sex toys?

YES WB is safe for use with latex, plastic and silicone toys.

YES OB is fine for use with plastic and silicone toys.

Is it safe to use YES whilst pregnant?

YES products are pure and are perfectly safe for use whilst pregnant. Because of the hormonal changes brought about by pregnancy, changes often result in vaginal dryness and the need for a lubricant. If vaginal dryness is experienced as a result of hormone changes due to pregnancy – common in the 2nd trimester – then YES WB would be more appropriate as it has the dual action of moisturisation and lubrication.

Are YES products sperm-friendly?

The two main factors which govern sperm motility are pH and osmolality. Most conventional lubricants (typically based on glycerine) have a very dense osmolality. This means sperm lose moisture into them, which reduces/destroys their viability. These lubricants also mostly have a pH which matches the normal vaginal pH and is thus too acidic for sperm which need the more alkaline pH provided by fertile cervical mucus to thrive.

Given the purity of its ingredients, YES water-based natural lube is the least likely of available water-based lubricants to damage sperm, but its pH is acidic, to match the usual vaginal environment, so is not ideal.

YES plant-oil based lube, on the other hand, has no pH value, and we suspect it is neutral in its effect, neither blocking nor assisting sperm motility.

How should I store YES products?

Various things can shorten the life of any product, e.g. extreme temperatures (leaving something on a sunny windowsill) or the addition of bacteria/fungi when removing the lid/cap.

Since YES products are all natural, they are more sensitive to harsh conditions than their synthetic chemical counterparts. Do not expose them to extreme temperatures, but keep them at room temperature, and keep the lid on when you are not using them.

YES OB – Occasional Granular Texture?

It is perfectly normal to experience a granular texture. This is simply a function of YES using natural raw materials and the product is perfectly safe to use. The Shea butter may crystallise out when it is warmed above body temperature and cooled slowly and can form grainy crystals that do look like sand.

If you rub/warm the crystals you will see that they melt in your hand. YES advise to warm the lube completely so it’s all a liquid, in a mug of hot, not boiling water (!!), shake the tube to mix it up and pop it in the fridge to cool quickly.
